Audience Feedback

As part of our audience feedback we showed our production to some students in our school and asked them questions. We learnt that based on the answers we got from the questions we asked that we rarely challenge any documenatry forms and we confirmed them very well through montage shots, interviews, music and espicially slowed down shots to emphasise a point. Many of the students said they enjoyed the documentary and thought the target audience was anyone who would be interested in the Olympics.

Another question we asked the audience was what areas of the documentary could have been improved? The audience thought that areas of the audio could have been improved as some of the voice overs were too loud so they needed to be adjusted. Also some shots were too shaky so they needed to be stabilised

Final editing

Last week we managed to complete the final editing process of our production by adding the final archive footage and recording the final voice over. The next stage is to convert it to quick time so it can be uploaded to blogger and also burn it to a disk via the Apple Macs
Now we have finished the production we now had to do our audience feedback to see what other people think of our documentary and the ways it can be improved.

Editing pictures

For my billboard supporting piece I am currently creating I have decided to go with the concept of Sam Sturt doing a flip and showing the different stages of. I have decided to do this as it clearly shows the documentary will be related to the 2012 Olympics. Along with this there will be some brief information on the documentary and text saying "Welcome to London".
After I took the pictures of Sam I had to edit them in order to create the effect that I was hoping for. For this I mainly used Paint as I could easily cut out the sections of the image and then fill in the areas for a better look. Once I had done this I went onto Windows Photo Gallery where I could fix the photo by changing the exposure and colour. I decided to go with changing the pictures to black and white as I wanted a grainy effect so that the picture looked distorted.
I will need go through this process again with the two other pictures I have taken too.

Using dafont

For our ancillary pieces I have decided to use dafont. Dafont is a website which gives a variety of different fonts. I will be using this for my ancillary pieces so that I can choose the best fonts for both of the pieces I am going to be making. Dafont gives me a huge choice of different fonts for different themes so it makes it easy for me to choose what font will go best with each of the supporting pieces.
The way dafont works is that I will choose a particular font and then insert the text. The text will appear in that particular font and then it has to be copied and pasted then cropped to size in a separate document as the text cannot be downloaded.

Ancillary pictures

Yesterday i managed to take some pictures of Sam whilst he was in training so that we can use them in out ancillary pieces. Once I have picked the pictures that I decide to use for the billboard and magazine article i will crop and edit them to try and create an effect that is appropriate for what I am trying to create.

Magazine article progress

As part of out joint ancillary piece we have decided to do a magazine article which involved an interview. So far we have managed to write out and insert the article into the layout we have chosen.
The next stage is to take some pictures of Sam in training so that we can use them in the article. We will also need to go on DaFont so we choose the appropriate font for the title too.
We managed to get the of the layout from a magazine we found in class where there was an interview on David Cameron. We liked the look of the layout to start with and then this further backed up our choice as there was an interview too making us realise that this was the best layout for an interviewed article.
Once we have completed this joint piece of work Chris and I need to create our own separate pieces. Chris has decided to make a poster advertising the documentary and I have decided to make a billboard.

Evaluation-Prezi

A requirement for the course is to create an evaluation on our documentary. Each individual has to make a presentation on this to the class showing them the documentary by evaluating it and looking into it in more detail.

I have managed to start my evaluation by covering the 4 areas:
How our production develops or challenges traditional documentary forms?
How effective is the comber-nation of production and ancillary pieces?
What have I learnt from audience feedback?
How did we use the media technologies?

As the evaluation needs to be in the form of a presentation, instead of using Microsoft Power point I decided to use an on-line software called Prezi. Prezi is a different presentation software to Microsoft Power point but it looks more attractive making it more interesting towards the viewers.

Voice over

Today we managed to get the first stage of voice over recording for our documentary. We still need to record more voice over parts with more facts and statistics on the Olympics.

We recorded strait in Imovie as this was the easiest option because we could record the voice over strait into the edited clip.

By having a voice over in our production this means the documentary has more purpose and follows the traditional documentary forms. It also gives the viewers more information and tells the audience what is going too.

Ancillary poster ideas

Another part of our ancillary piece we have decided to make as well as the billboard and newspaper article is a poster advertising the documentary.
Here are the two drafts we have created. We will be using the similar layout for each of them, but we will be taking additional pictures of Sam to make the poster look more attractive.
The first poster is very simple. It shows the title of the documentary, what time and has the Olympic logo to show the audience what the documentary is on. It however lacks the information shown in the second poster as this gives more specific information on what the documentary is about and who is staring in it too. Like the first poster it has all the vital information such as the time and date of the documentary but however lacks the title which may need to be added in the later stages.

Interview-Sam

Part of our documentary must involve some form of interview with someone. We have decided to interview Sam Sturt who is a potential competetor for the 2012 Olympics. Me and Chris have managed to get an interview with Sam where we will be asking him questions on his views on the Olympics and his training in preparation for 2012. We are also planning to take pictures for our ancillary piece and also ask Sam additional questions to further the level of detail in the newspaper article which we have started and have some questions and answers for.

In addition to interviewing Sam we are hoping to interview his trainer and have Sam training in the background to create more of effect, meaning and to add to the conventions of the documentary. We will be asking the trainer questions on her views of the Olympics, Britain's chances are medals and Sam's chances of winning gold.

Ancillary-Bilboard idea

For another idea for our ancillary piece we have decided to create a bilboard as advertisement for the documentary.
The bilboard would be a Welcome to London sign to act as a advertising and marketing campaign to dress up London in prepartion for the Olympics.
By having this in places such as airports and in the Olympic village it will increase tourism and create more awareness of the 2012 Olympic in London.
This is a draft of the bilboard we are planning to create. We plan to use the same layout with the wrting, the logo and the information on times of the documentary. We are planning to take more photos of Sam for this ancillary and the other poster and article we are planning to create too.

Editing process

Today we began the first stage of the editing process. We managed to to edit the archive footage we collected from You tube on 2012 bid announcement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_lJkZ_K7jQ
We had to edit the unnecessary parts of the footage and only use the sections where there is the announcement of who the games are awarded to.
We used a series of transitions and sound fading to open and close the archive to add more of an affect to the documentary.
For example we we used a fade in at the beginning and fade out at the end of the archive to create more of an effect and meaning to the opening of the production. We also enhanced the sound out the beginning of the footage and made the sound fade away once the archive had finished.
After the archive footage we plan to have a voice over briefly explaining what our documentary will be about whilst at the same time different shot of landmarks around London.

Archive footage-Winning bid

This is some of the archive footage we are hoping to use at the start of our documentary to enhance the quality and add to the meaning of our production.
Our documenatary will open by showing the archive footage of London winning the Olympic bid back in 2005 in order to show the pivital moment of what possibilities and consequebces the Olympics will have.

Ancillary pictures

As part of our supporting piece we have taken a picture of Sam for a poster we are creating for the Olympic doccumentary. The poster will have some brief information on the programme, when it's on and what channel too.
The aim of the poster is to create awareness for our documentary and these are some of the pictures I have taken and edited to create more of an effect.

Ancillary piece

We have now begun interviewing Sam as part of our ancillary piece. We have asked him questions about the 2012 Olympics and have put the answers into a newspaper article that we are planning to create.
After we have asked the questions to Sam we have incorporated this into an article by being the interviewing and rein acting the interview we had with same before.

For example

The interviewer looked surprised. So you don’t think we can live up to the expectation?
“No, it will be hard but not impossible”Do you see yourself competing when it comes to 2012?“I feel that as I have already achieved world champion at Sports Acrobatics and if I continue to train at a high level then there is no reason why I should think that I won’t be competing by the time 2012 comes around.

We got this layout idea from:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/jan/10/oscar-pistorius-paralympics-interview

Editing

Now we have our footage from London we have begun the stage of editing the footage. We have to decide what footage will be necessary for the documentary and how this will be constructed into the final piece. I still think we have additional filming to do such as interviews and possibly more filming in London.

Filming

A requirement of our documentary that we set ourselves was to film different areas in London. An area that we needed to go was Stratford as this is where the Olympic village is being constructed and also where the Olympic stadium will be as well. We managed to film certain areas of the building site and also around the Stratford area too.
