Supporting piece
Another aspect for our doccumentary is that we have to create a seperate piece of work to support our doccumentary. This is called a ansillary and can be in the form of a newspaper article, a poster or bilboard, a radio advert, reviws, advertising campaign etc...
We have decided that our ansillary piece will be a newspaper article on Sam Sturt, another newspaer article on the the positive and negative impacts of the Olympics which willbe more satrical, political and more informative towards our documentary. We will also be making a poster or bilboard explaining what our doccumentary will be about.

They have said we are not allowed to film directly on the site due to safety reasons however we are allowed to go to a place called greenway where there is a good view of the the olympic building site where we will be allowed to film.

Archive
Part of our production process will be using archive from other sources. We are planning to use this archive as it will give our work more depth and make the production more interesting as a whole.
The archive we are hoping to collect will be famous clips from Olympic moments such as Usain Bolt etc and possibly the building progress of the Olympic site. We are also trying to find a pice of archive footage of when London won the Olympic bid as a opening shot fot our documentary.
When using this archive we need to be careful not to use it too much, as our production will be marked on our filming techniques and not our ability to retrieve archive from other sources.

Interview-Sam
As part of the interviewing process for out production we have to interview different people on their views of the 2012 Olympics.
Recently we have got an interview with Sam Sturt who is a potential 2012 Gymnast and is willing to answer some questions.
Firstly the Interview will invlove us filming a variety of shots of Sam taking part in Gymnastics, then we will be directing questions at him about the positive and negative impacts of the 2012 Olympics on London.

Documentary examples
I have recently been looking at examples of documentaries in order to help us with our project. I have been looking at a varity of documentaries such as Louis Theroux Weird Wekends so we can use some of his ideas for our production.

I looked at the typical documentary forms such as The Observational Mode, Reflective Mode and more that were being used so that we could encorportae some of these ideas into our final production.

I Movie Storyboard
The next stage of the storyboard process is to use I Movie to help produce a more developed form of storyboard. Currently we are only using pictures from the Internet as a majority of our filming will be in London. Therefore shots around London that we are using are being taken off the Internet and archive shots are done in the same way too.
We have currently been expermenting with the software so that when we start using it we will be familar with the process of importing photos from the computer and cameras. We use the Kodak Zi6 which are hand heald cameras they can easily import photos onto the Apple Macs.

Interview letter
We recieved a e-mail form the London 2012 commitee confirming our e-mail. They told us to write a letter directly to the commitee asking them for an intervirew.
I have recently written the letter to the commitee explaining our situation and what we would like to achieve for the project. We are now waiting for a reply from them to see if we are able to have an interview sometime in the near future.

Storyboard
Before we start the filming process of our documentary we had to write out our storyboard. This helped us write our ideas down on paper and when it come to the filming process we will have something to follow which will make the process much easier.
Our storyboard invovles pictures of the different shots that we will be having and below and explanation of what will happening happening in each of the shots.

Documentary Research
In order to decide what type of documentary our group wants to make we decided to research different modes of documentary. I found out that there are 4 different forms of documentaries.
Reflective this is where the film maker acknowlages their presence. Meaning sometimes in documentaries such as Louis Theroux the documenatry maker (Louis Theroux) is in presence within the shots of the documentary. Poetic is a for whereby an artistic naritive is constructed. Observational is being there as events unfold and Expository is an essay or exposition.
I also researched what documentaries try to achieve. Documentaries will either record, reveal or preserve. Persuade or promote. Analyse, interrogate or to express.

Planning
Before we start our main production we need to plan and decide how we will constuct our documentary. We have decided to do this through discussing ideas. Once we dicussed the ideas and thought of our main idea of the impact of the Olympic Games on London we had to begin storyboarding. This involved us taking still pictures of scenes that we will be using in the main production and then writing by the side what effects, music etc will be happening. This is important as it get ideas down on paper and when making our main production it is something to follow.

Interviews
In preparation for our documentary we have decided to makes some practice interviews. We had to make 3 types of interviews. The first one we made was handheld shot to create tension, the second was a steady shot which creates a sypatheic view and the last one was a presntpole mical view whcih is an opposition shot.
Creating the 3 typpes of the interviws was good preparation for when we start to make our main documentary as we know what the conventions of the different interviews will be. Creating this will also help improve on the mistakes we made in the practice interviws too.
